When a Beach Becomes a Stadium

In Thailand, the 4th Asian Beach Games have come to a close; athletes from 45 countries of the world participated in the event. National team of Kazakhstan has won 27 medals.

Our representatives have proven to be excellent in water sports. Swimmer Vitaliy Khudyakov won the 5 kilometers marathon, and took the silver medal for the 10 km distance. And Kazakhstan’s water polo players were the strongest as well. It should be noted that they have already won the first and second Beach Games. In Phuket, the national team was represented by Victor Salnichenko, Alexandr Shvedov, Ravil Manafov, Yevgeniy Medvedev, Miras Aubakirov and Maxim Zhardan.

Traditionally, climbing championships are also held in the course of such games. Athletes from Kazakhstan took five medals in this sport. Alexey Molchanov, Rishat Khaibullin and Amir Maimuratov won the victory in the team competition, and Tatyana Kuznetsova became the best climber in "speed" discipline. And she together with Zhazira Myrzakhanova and Assel Marlenova won the bronze medal in the team event. In addition, Assel Marlenova won the silver, and Rishat Khaibullin took the bronze medal in the individual events.

And sambo wrestlers won four medals. In the team tournament, mixed national team of Kazakhstan (Bagdat Zharylgasov, Erzhan Kabdenov, Chingiz Shokputov, Leila Konyspaeva, Farida Dosymbekova and Zere Bektashkyzy) won the gold medal of the Games. In the individual competitions Erzhan Kabdenov and Leila Konyspaeva were awarded with the silver medal. And Bagdat Zharylgasov – with the bronze.

Track and field athletes of Kazakhstan have six awards. Both men and women have two silver medals in two four-of-60-meters relay races. Another silver award is won by the high jumper Yuriy Dergachev. Ivan Ivanov (shot put), Victoria Zyabkina (run) and Yekaterina Ektova (long jump) have the bronze medals.

And Kazakhstan’s pentathletes, which at the Asian Beach Games were among the newcomers, did not fail as well. Vladislav Sukharev and Olga Boiko won the bronze medals.

In the beach competition, Olga Kalinina (60 kg) won the gold medal for Kazakhstan. In Thailand she was stronger than her rivals from the South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan. In the final game Olga was to meet the home side of the tournament Badzhong Poonmart, and the Kazakhstan sportswoman came up to her supporters’ expectations. Nurlan Begzhanov (70 kg) and Baurzhan Izbasar (80 kg) won the bronze medals of the Games.

And here is the fun part. At home of Thai Boxing – Muay Tai – our boxers managed to win four awards! Vadim Loparev became the champion in the weight category up to 75 kilos, in the final he defeated Iranian sportsman Hossein Karami. Nurum Kemal (57 kg) and Rustem Akzhanov (71 kg) got the silver, and Zhanserik Amirzhanov (67 kg) has the bronze medal.

And finally, the last eighth medal was added to the team's piggy bank by our beach volleyball players. In the final, the first pair of the country – Tatyana Mashkova and Irina Tsymbalova – has outplayed the Thailand’s pair – Varapatsorn Radarong and Tanaratthu Udomchavi – in two games. Well Done!
