From February 1 to 8, Almaty hosted the FIS World Championship on Nordic disciplines for juniors and young skiers under 23 years. In the fight for the awards was attended over 600 athletes from 36 countries of the world. Competition in the Nordic disciplines so high rank were held for the first time in our country.
As far as victories, almost half of all medals collection simply took the Norwegians. They won 18 medals (10 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze ) -almost half of all the awards! There is a good reason that descendants of the Vikings believed the best in winter sports! And the head coach of the Norwegian team Brit Baldishol is confirmed: "Ski racing is the number one sport in Norway, more important and more popular than football. It is the national sport. And Norwegian athletes did not miss one world challenge, they are happy to participate in this year's competition".
Second place in the team event has the Russian national team. The delegation of Germany was third. By the way, most of the awards on account of 19-year-old skier from the country – Victoria Carl: two gold medals, a silver medal in the individual competition and a bronze in the team relay race.
With regard to Kazakhstan citizens, the last championship was not the best of their performance, while our team also has its stars and good tradition in winter sports. However, the team's best result was in the top 10 of Rinat Mukhin in ski race at 15 km in championship of skiers before 23 years.
However, optimism is not lost. The Olympic champion, four-time world champion, Director General of the “Astana” President's professional sports club, Vice President of the National Ski Federation – Vladimir Smirnov was confident: "Skiingsports we have are well developed, and they are very popular. I would like to point out that every year our athletes bring medals from various sporting events".
Smirnov also said that Kazakhstan has organized a wonderful sport holiday: "With confidence I can say that the Festival of sport in the southern capital of Kazakhstan was a success. We expect that these bright international starts will serve as a stimulus for the development of youth sport and physical activity in our country. In future we have the World Winter Students Games 2017, and possibly the Winter Olympics".
And, of course, the past starts will be recorded to the value of the organizers of the event. During the competition the southern capital was visited by more than a thousand foreign guests. To food, accommodation, purchase of souvenirs and other targets they have spent around 190 million tenge.
The Director of the State Fund of the Executive Directorate of the Students Games – 2017, Ilya Urazakov accurately noted: "There is no easy and quick way to «promote» the city as a major sporting event. Judge for yourself, to us came representatives from 36 countries of the world. And this, believe me, is a very good indicator".
