The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in New York together with the Permanent Mission RK to the United Nations held a launch for the books written by the famous Kazakh writer Abdizhamil Nurpeissov and translated into English: Blood and Sweat and The Last Duty.
Abdizhamil Nurpeissov, the patriarch of our literature, arrived in New York himself to meet his overseas readers, and this exclusive event aroused much interest. You cannot find any better ambassador of a country’s culture than literature. The translator was Catherine Fitzpatrick.
At this ceremonial reception with the representatives of the US State Department, of the foreign diplomatic corps, and of Kazakh Diaspora, the writer shared his remembrances and plans for his creative activity, answered guests’ questions, left his autographs.
These novels, and especially Blood and Sweat, are the classic of the Kazakh literature. Opportunity for the foreign reader to read these books will facilitate their deeper acquaintance with our country and its history. And of course, admirers of Abdizhamil Nurpeissov’s works and students living in New York will remember their conversation with this wise and talented person for a long time.
