Folk Heroes as the Peacemakers

In epics, legends, epics of Kazakhs, Russians and other peoples of Kazakhstan there are heroes, personifying the image of the army. All of them are different, as well as their history. But our peoples have a common history and common characters that are symbols of peace on Earth. 

Heroes of Kazakh Epos 

Epics passed from generation to generation verbally. Many of them tell of a people's struggle against invaders, a desire of people for a fair and peaceful life, achieving high human ideals. And, at the same time, storytellers can shift the historical time, events and characters, replacing old enemies by new ones, that is the main plot of the epic of early times could be recycled in accordance with the current time.

Source for epics formation can be served events of 8-11 centuries. In heroic epos were historical events of the 16th and 17th centuries. In the dastans often sounded the call to unite the three zhuzes. However, there praised hot love of warrior heroes to their homeland and the heroism of the people.

For example, the «Koblandy Batyr» epic tells the story of ancient times, when on Earth of Kipchaks, at the foot of the Karaspan mountain, was born semi-legendary Kazakh warrior hero – Koblandy. He grew by leaps and bounds. And he had a horse – Taiburyl, the same strong and mighty, as his master. According to the epic, it was so, that Koblandy often responded to the request for protection from other clans and tribes, but upon returning from the Crusades, having discovered his Nomad had been exenterated.

“Alpamys Batyr” epos told the story of how in ancient times on Zhideli-Baisyn Earth lived a very rich man Baibory. When he turned eighty years old, his wife gave birth to a son, and they called him Alpamys. Alpamys grew up strong and bold warrior hero, protecting his people against invaders.

The main idea of the epic «Kambar Batyr» – praise of labour and military feats of the warrior hero. Hero acts are determined by two main objectives. The first is to honestly work for people, obtain food for people, help in life. The second is to protect the nation from foreign enemies.

The basic idea of the epic «Er Targyn»-approval of unity of emerging ethnic – Kazakhs. Er-Targyn is well aware that in the event of his departure, prostrate enemy tomorrow will make camping and destroying Nogailin villages, occupying the ground.

Warriors heroes from the real history

As legendary heroes and warriors of the real history of the Kazakhs were defenders of the fatherland against the Dzungar/kalmyk/invaders.

Perhaps, Zhalantos Batyr Seitkululy (1576 -1656) – military leader, Emir of Samarkand, in addition to battles with dzhungars was involved in the repulsion of the Iranians expansion.

He is the grandfather of the famous Aiteke bi. Zhalantos Batyr was born in 1576 in the lands of Syrdaria in tribal nomads of Alimuly. This is the territory of the modern Kazalinsk district of Kyzylorda region.

According to information from the source «Tarikhi Kypchak-Hani» Hadzhamkuli Balkhi, Zhalantos Batyr has collected 100-thousandth army, consisting of the Bukharian warriors and the Kazakh militia and defeated the Iranians.

Kanzhygaly Bogenbay batyr (1680-1778) – national hero of Kazakhstan, the great Kazakh military leader, Commander-in-Chief of the armies of the three Kazakh hordes, he did not worst in his military career (103 battles). Born in 1680, in the generic winter pasture of Ķanzhyġaly of Argyn tribe -on Bugun River (now the Baidibek district, South-Kazakhstan region).

Kabanbay-Batyr (real name Yerasyl, 1692-1770) was born in a family of Batyr Kozhakula, one of the organizers of the national-liberation movement of Kazakhs from Dzungar invaders, general and jouster. The descendant of the Naiman tribe and Karakerey clan, he received the title of «Khan warriors». He had a career of warrior from an ordinary soldier to leader of the Kazakh army in a number of strategically important battles.

Heroes of ancient Russian epics

Folk tales (Russian epic) – heroic-patriotic songs and legends telling about exploits of heroes and reflecting the life of ancient Russia in 9th-13th centuries, are a verbal national creativity of common ancestors of Ukrainians, Russians and Belorusians.

Warrior heroes stood guard over Russia and were its superheroes. The names of the three most famous ancient heroes are still sounds familiar -Ilya Muromets, Alyosha Popovich and Dobrynya Nikitich. Probably all know about them. But there were other heroes of epics.

Svyatogor – in the East Slavic mythology hero-giant, is one of the most ancient Russian epic heroes outside of Kiev and Novgorod cycles and only partly concern with the first one for a meeting of Svyatogor with Ilya Muromets.

Mikula Selyaninovich – is the warrior hero of a plough, was the representative of the farming life, mighty peasant – plowman.

Ilya Muromets, as the Chief defender of the Russian land, was a member of the peasant class. Ilya has a huge force that accompanies the moral strength. Over time the religious side began to get the upper hand in his characteristic, so that, finally, he became the Saint.

Dobrynya Nikitich – is impersonation of «warrior-heroes kindliness». Dobrynya has nicknamed «young», with the huge physical force he «wouldn't hurt a fly», he is a defender of “widows and orphans, miserable women». Dobrynya also «artist in the soul: master of singing and playing on gusli». He is a representative of Russian society, like prince-warrior.

Alyosha Popovich was the junior of the younger warrior heroes.

Michael Potyk – warrior hero, representative of municipality service force. Perhaps his name originally sounded like Potok, which means «wandering, nomadic».

And there was the traveling warrior hero, who was the embodiment of youth, audacity and wealth, Churila Plenkovich.

Defenders of Peace

All peoples have their epics, own tall tales, warriors and heroes. But the multi-ethnic people of Kazakhstan have a common history, and there are characters who are personifications of unifications since revered by all the people of our country as the defenders of the fatherland.

It's worth remembering, commemorating 70-th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany.

The Republic was sent to the front 12 infantry divisions, 4 Cavalry divisions, 7 National Rifle brigades, including 2 national shooting teams. In addition, in Kazakhstan was formed about 50 regiments and battalions of troops.

The military path of Kazakhstan heroes and formations began in a dangerous time in Brest, near Moscow in 1941 and was completed in the spring of 1945 in Berlin and Prague. They were defending the Brest fortress in Leningrad, fought at Stalingrad, Kursk, liberated Ukraine, Belorussia, Moldova, Baltic countries, saved from the Nazi yoke and the peoples of Europe.

Battle for Moscow was extremely important, because they break the course of the entire war. And we all know that the feat of Panfilov Division in this battle was decisive. This multinational military formation at 40 per cent consisted of Kazakhs, 30%-were Russians and the same 26 representatives of peoples of the Soviet Union.

It is an Panfilov Division officer Baurzhan Momyshuly, had award of hero of the Soviet Union in 1990, and Che Guevara called him the most prominent hero of the Second World War.

Kazakh Rahimzhan Koshkarbaev together with private Gregory Bulatov were first raised a red flag in front of the Reichstag.

During the war, about 500 people became heroes of the Soviet Union, more than 100 – Full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory. Four were twice awarded the title of hero of the Soviet Union. They are Talgat Begeldinov, Leonid Beda, Ivan Pavlov and Sergei Lugansky.

Among the 500 representatives of many heroes of the peoples of Kazakhstan. And in general, to the front left about 1 million 200 thousand Kazakhstan people, it means every fifth.

They all are heroes of our common history, the defenders of peace on Earth.
